In late 2022, MBC was selected to be the Construction Manager for Ottawa Salus’ newest 4-storey, wood framed, affordable housing development. Located at 56 Capilano Dr. alongside the busy Merivale corridor in Ottawa, this project provides 54 new supportive housing units purposefully designed for older adults who suffer from serious mental illness and other concurrent challenges such as addictions, homelessness, and cycles of hospitalization. A key goal is to enable residents to “Age in Place,” fostering dignity and independence. The building also features 8 barrier-free units, office space, laundry facilities, on-site supportive programming, and a tenant resource centre.
Because the project funding was contingent upon “Rapid Housing” guidelines and energy efficiency targets, great care was taken during the planning and design phase to meet and exceed these goals, including the panelization of the wooden walls and floors, all electric building design, a photovoltaic solar panel array on the roof, and EV charging stations.
