Carleton’s Twin Pad arena facilities are linked to the existing gymnasium and indoor pool to the Alumni Hall and Field house structures, giving Carleton one of the most distinct athletic complexes in the nation. Both rinks are NHL size, with seating in one rink for approximately 600 spectators and seating for 100 in the other.
The two structures are linked by load-bearing masonry which houses twelve change rooms and amenity areas. An open-concept atrium welcomes visitors, and extensive work was put into landscaping and design in order to promote a welcoming environment. The newest technology in ice making at the time was incorporated to make this a functional and environmentally conscious building. For example, rain water from the roof areas is collected, treated and used for the toilets, urinals and irrigation.
