This two-story wing expansion had to deal with the difficulties of keeping the historical value of the original church building, first built in the mid nineteenth century. We had to ensure that our addition kept the aesthetic and cultural value inherent in the architecture of the era. The contract included all earthworks and foundation work, as well as the exterior work to blend with the existing masonry as well as an extensive interior fit up to address the client’s programming needs.
The expansion included a main hall, washrooms, commercial kitchen, and handicap accessibility by means of a new elevator. Both McDonald Bros Construction and Robertson Martin Architects received the City of Ottawa’s conservation award for our involvement and commitment to this project.
